Crocolis HD Sports Camera

Check out the first image (above left). That image definitely depicts this as a true "Extreme Sports" camera in my book. LOL. In the last month, there's more people talking about a fairly new Crocolis HD Sports Camera. In full 1080p mode, it has quite an almost normal 140 degree FOV (field of view) which is quite nice if you want something a bit different than the super wide fisheye look. I'm not sure what's going on in the beginning of this video (below), but jump on in at about 0:37 seconds, and you'll see some very clear and sharp underwater footage from this camera (no flat lens adapter required).

The HD Sports action camera has a 1.5" TFT LCD screen, rechargeable Li-Ion battery, built in microphone, claims a whopping 16 megapixel (still photo), video resolutions and frame rates in 1080p @30fps/25fps, 720p@60fps/30fps/25fps, and QVGA@30fps/120fps, a 4x Zoom. Behind a rear door you'll find a mini HDMI port out, 3.5mm Microphone input, USB 2.0. The camera is waterproof in it's own housing. In the same bundle package are necessary cables, and adapters for a variety of sports mounting solutions.

Now Crocolis is doing an excellent job with marketing and brand recognition, but there's other names this camera falls under. If you can locate this under it's most basic name, you'll find it at a much cheaper price. You can find some of these HD video cameras on auction following the link (click here)

Delkin Wingman HD Video Camera

Delkin steps in to offer a 1080p HD video sports camera called the WingmanHD. Naming convention and marketing images familiar? The little cam has a built in HDMI, 1.5" LCD, 3x Zoom, composite A/V and USB ports. Comes with waterproof housing and available with a variety of mounting options. No sample videos online that I could find just yet, but I doubt it's anywhere near the level of GoProHD.

Delkin WingManHD

With the latest wireless offerings offered in the GoPro HD Hero 2, I think Delkin could be stepping in a little too late in this market, and they'll need to seriously consider changing their pricing options if they want to stay afloat. Some additional information at the Delkin website, and the units already available at B&H (click here)

GoProHD was already surprising film makers with it's quality to size ratio, but they seemed to have found a way to make it even better. Not just 2x sharper images (bigger sensor), but more FOV (field of view) options, 120fps (yes!), more TimeLapse options, faster 10 photos in 1 second, but also mini-HDMI and external Mic input? Holy cow.

GoPro Hero 2

You think that's crazy, what about the other features that include Wi-Fi Remote Control, Wi-Fi video preview + playback, Wi-Fi streaming to web,Camera control via smartphone, tablet and computer app?? Yeah it's really something to see, and you can only find it available right now at the GoPro site. This will sell out for sure. You can also check out a video tutorial about all the new features and innards at the product page (click here)

A teaser shot 100% on GoPro HD cameras, showing what can kind of 'bullet-time' effect can be accomplished with the worlds first GoPro HD Video array. Firing off dozens of networked still cameras in a single frame is a technical hurdle for most, so a more popular idea is to extract a single video frame from each video clip. This is a time consuming post process, which looks like how this project was pulled off. I can't be sure, but a similar project was done using DSLRs not too long ago. [Thanks Jason]

There's an on going debate between the GoProHD and ContourHD cameras. While the GoPro is having much success with it's recent sale price announcement (I know many of you swooped one up), some ContourHD fans might be happy to know there's a drop for this particular little POV cam. Normally running about $250 and then at times on sale for $199, ContourHD has even shaved off another $60 bucks from that sale price right now (full 1080p version). It's a cool little water resistant (not waterproof) camera if you're looking to start doing some bike helmet, car, or motorcycle mounting. If you want to go full waterproof, the optional case runs about $40 bucks, which is still keeps the overall total price under retail. Yes, it qualifies for Prime too which means free shipping and have it in two days (click here).

A very cool looking kit from Snake River Prototyping that adds a much needed flat lens to the GoPro HD. If you haven't done your research, the GoPro HD video will become soft underwater and things will look blurred out. With a flat lens on the housing, your video will retain it's sharpness and focus to infinity. I've been using the EyeOfMine housing which has vastly improved the videos during my snorkeling trip in Maui, but the SRP BlurFix not only looks better, but allows use of Filters. With an orange type filter under blue color cast waters, this will provide a better white balance and underwater images become more colorful.

I'll be putting the kit together and then later do some testing with a GoPro HD in standard housing, and another one with the SRP BlurFix kit. Stay tuned, but you You can find out more information about the Blurfix from Snake River Prototyping can be found at https://www.snakeriverprototyping.com/BlurFix.html

Instructional Assembly

Earlier I posted some big savings that SanDisk was offering of it's Compact Flash media and SDHC cards. You can find that article here: http://cheesycam.com/sandisk-media-huge-deals/. Lexar is now offering a Buy Two and save type deal on many of their media cards, so if Transcend wasn't good enough, Sandisk doesn't meet your needs, then Lexar might be up your alley. Found below.

Summer is here, and the weather is looking good. Time to take to the air with a Quad copter. These little GAUI quad copters are creating quite a 'buzz' (pun intended). GAUI makes inexpensive quad rotor helicopters that can carry quite a bit of weight, which seems to be trending towards small cameras like the GoPro HD or Contour HD. Keep in mind that these Copters are not toys and are serious flying machines that you'll need to take great care and responsibility with (unless you're a seasoned RC flyer already).

3 AXIS Gimble Camera Mount Stabilizer

Tons of other companies are making some very cool aftermarket accessories. Looks like tons of fun. There's also several accessories for landing gears, camera mounts, pan / tilt setups, and 3 axis gimbals to help keep the camera's horizon level even though the copter might sway a bit. There's a whole slew of GAUI Copter related videos over at YouTube.com, and plenty of GAUI quad copters kits and accessories can be found for great prices via eBay.
