28Dec Sneak Peek Cinema Skater DSLR Dolly
A quick look at the new Cinema Skater Video dolly that can support larger size cameras. On the dolly you’ll see the huge Manfrotto 501HDV fluid head. There is no possible way this head would mount up on the smaller Pico Flex Dolly, so if you’re looking for a dolly to support something like a Sony FS100, Panasonic AF100, or even a RED Scarlet here’s an option.

Thrown on the fluid head is a Canon 5D Mark II, and the Swivi LCD (for low angle shooting). This was a quick test run as we plan on throwing on the much larger and heavier Sony EX1 on it tomorrow. Seems really nice indeed, for larger size cameras. Probably overkill for a 7D or a 5D MkII, though. I guess the best gear for a DSLR would be a Pico Flex Dolly + a big enough camera mount head ?

I just got mine in the mail. I wish they has 3/8″ holes drilled as well. How did you attach the 3/8″ tripod onto your skate?

I need to know (money no object)…Pico Flex or Cinema skater? I currently just shoot with a T3i and TM700…but definitely want to “future-proof” a dolly purchase because 2012 will hopefully bring “bigger and better” gear. That 360 was really nice… could you (and would you with confidence) do that with a dSLR mounted on the Pico Flex?

@Tony – The Pico can handle the DSLR or TM700, even better if you put a fluid head on. The Pico can run on much smaller tables and surfaces. The Cinema Skater is great for very large cameras, but won’t be able to rotate on smaller tables and is much larger during traveling and packing. They both have benefits, and it might even make sense to have both. Same reason why I own several Glidecam models. I use the larger HD4000 for my heavy setup, but hate dragging it around just smaller projects or when I need to pack light. So I have the Glidecam HD1000 also.

@KKEEEVVVIINN – Pretty cool setup, but you can get that mount to be much cleaner. Instead of using that stud, you just need a step up like the one below.
