16Jul Remote LCD Live View + Remote Shutter for DSLR Video – Exciting!
Wow, thanks Serge! This is a cool looking little gadget that Serge sent in for me to look at. It’s not HD, but i’m assuming it’s close to the resolution on the DSLR itself. A bit smaller in size at 2.5″, but with some type of magnification this would be the solution that I mentioned LCD ViewFinders would be heading towards. With this type of simple setup offset shoulder rigs would be a thing of the past. The camera can remain mounted anywhere and the LCD + LCD View Finder can be moved into eye position by a simple articulating arm.
Depending on how long the cord is, this would work as a lightweight monitor for smaller Jibs / Crane type setups for ‘framing’ (not sure about focus pulling). It has it’s own rechargeable battery pack too, but can accept DC power. A very cool function is that it acts like a Remote Shutter!(shutter function may only be for photography) Wow this is an excellent addition to the Palo Alto adapter for those low aerial shots. I can totally use this for framing shots while the camera is 10′ feet high!. Very cool small lightweight product that i’m excited to get my hands on and the price is ridiculous! Oh, before posting this I did place my order in case they run out. Check out the new Remote LCD for DSLR video by clicking here.
Update:: They emailed me asking what Canon camera I have. They mentioned they have cables to support the Canon 5D Mark II, 7D, and T2i. I hope they ship fast, i’m interested in showing what this looks like with a video review.

I dont this will work with the 7D, as the 7D uses a digital connector for the video out, unlike the 5d which still uses a standard jack.

I have all cameras, and can test with each when it comes in. From Hong Kong though, this could be a few weeks out.

Hi,
My first post on cheezycam
Could you take some picture of this remote on your 550D? It’s only about one cable on remote port?
Thx!!!

When I get it I will do a review. Thanks.

I would only get one if it was exposure accurate – that is, having the same gamma and color temp as the built in LCD. I doubt that it would though, since it is compatible with so many cameras.

Wow, this one looks cool. I’ve got a few questions on this, maybe you could help me out.
On the t2i will I be able to start recording movies with this?
As you said the Quality isn’t that good for focussing will the Display of the t2i run if that’s plugged in? I mean both of them, the one on the cam and the one on the Remote?
Wich cheap Viewfinder Clone will fit the LCD of the Remote?
Thanks in advance,
just found your site and LOVE it,
George

I’m going to talk about this just becuase it’s something to talk about, but honestly i’m not that impressed with using it for video shooting. I find I would just use it for my Palo Alto shots.

Well, I just need it to frame my shots and start the recording. Focus would be controlled and set before. But I really need to know if it can start the recording of my t2i when mounted on my crane. It sucks to start the recording on camera, raise the crane, do the shot, then lower it again and end the recording.

It cannot start Video recording. You can use this LCD for framing, but would still need the infrared remote to start Video recording. I don’t know of any other remotes that can start video recording besides the infrared type.

It does not appear to be able to start video mode.

So this is basically a “FAIL”? I shoot lots of nature stuff and sometimes it’s a little close to the ground- as in inches…..I guess ill just use a hand mirror tilted.

It should work fine for composing a shot. It’s not very sharp to be used a remote LCD to focus with. The screen is also not super bright during the day time. It does help me with my Palo Alto adapter on Painters pole.

I was looking at this one Remote Control Live View 2.5″ for Canon 5D Mark II
Love the way it mounts – None of these should be used for exposure or focus – framing only.
Sometimes I mount my 5d upside down on a slider – always hard to get that right, especially close to the ground. Could probably make an easy hood for this and it might just work out. Thanks for the link. Would be interested in seeing a short vid of it just to see how bad the resolution is.

Thank you for the tip on this! Does the viewfinder on the camera work at the same time as the LCD Live view in video mode?

No it doesn’t.

Is it possible to press record on the lcd? or are the buttons just for pictures?
