CagePro – GoPro Powered Cage w/ Canon LP-E6 Battery

Tehkron CagePro GoPro Powered Cage

To solve the issues of short battery life on the GOPRO HERO3/ HERO3+ cameras, a short time ago a GoPro Powered Cage (concept) running off of Canon LP-E6 batteries was introduced. It appeared to be well received, so the concept idea was moved quickly into manufacturing. The day it was announced, YouTube member Blunty created a short 'WANT' video about the CagePro [Thanks Blunty].

Fast forward a few months and several prototypes later, the new CagePro is finally ready to ship with an optional Top Handle and the final version can accept 52mm threaded CPL or ND filters. Since the new HERO3+ camera is exactly the same size, the CagePro is compatible with both the HERO3 / HERO3+ cameras once placed in the skeleton housing. Announced today in a newsletter, pre-orders are available now (limit 1 per customer) and is expected to ship earlier than November 10th.

For more information about the CagePro GoPro Hero3 / Hero3+ Powered Cage check out the listing page (found here).

Got this cage with handle. NOT recommended. The crappy plastic hinge on the door to the battery compartment broke off on the third or fourth time opening it! Jeez what a waste. Good concept but crappy execution. Very disappointed.

I just received the preordered Tehkron Cage Pro with top handle. First the top left corner of box is crushed in, the shipping box was in perfect shape so that means it was placed into the box already that way. Secondly I was very disappointed to find out that half of the cage is plastic and not metal. Will be returning.

got the cage today and i'm glad that i didn't purchase 6 units for our fleet. It feel flimsy and cheap. Cut cost buy have all other area in thin plastic? The usb cable is glue to the board buy a tiny bit of glue. Why can't they solder it to the board?

@dim3m - The areas where it's threaded are aluminum, and other areas are a molded plastic I guess to cut down weight. The GoPro is still in it's own skeleton housing so it should remain just as durable.

Aside from the main frame/ cage around the gopro is no doubt made from high grade aluminum. What material is the battery enclosure and the front filter attachment made from? I notice the different color tone on the pictures. Or is it all aluminum?

    Thanks

@Victro Dizon - No it is not waterproof because it is based around the GoPro Skeleton Case (not waterproof).

@Alex - Possibly because of the discount they only allow one. Maybe ask a buddy, and try to order another one under a different name.

  9. placed an ordered as well. I wish they allow me to order at least 2 units since i have total of 5 GoPro on our fleet. 🙁

BTW, why not taking paypal as payment method?

Only thing I don't like is the fact that I will no longer be able to hook my rode video mic to the gopro.

@Rob - It is only intended to be used where the typical skeleton case is used. The Skeleton case has a cut out for the USB cable (inside the cagepro) to connect.

Very cool looking. Makes the plasticky Go Pro look like professional gear. How does the canon battery power the GoPro? Do we need to purchase a micro HDMI cable or something similar in addition to the skeleton housing? Can an external mic also be used at the same time? If so how does that connect? This is not intended for use in wet conditions right?

I placed my pre-order less than a minute after I saw your article. Can't wait to get it and really impressed that they will be shipping next week!
