Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 8-18mm f/2.8-4 ASPH. Wide Angle Zoom Lens

I think this new Panasonic Lens will replace my favorite Panasonic 7-14mm F/4 when flying my new GH5 on a Gimbal. The new lens is faster at F/2.8 at it's widest, adds a bit more reach, but most importantly offers filter threads for ND filters. It's not often you'll find a wide angle lens that accepts ND Filters. I don't mind that it's not as wide, as the new Panasonic GH5 camera can operate in 4K Video Mode without adding additional crop (as the GH4 used to). The new Panasonic 8-18mm lens is also dust and splash proof as well.

@Paul Vee - The 8-18mm is an awesome lens, and if you want the best quality you would be better off with a static ND filter over a variable one.

I shoot video - currently have the GH% and Sigma 10-20 mm lens and Genustech Variable ND filter. Results? Horrendous X Cross effects - especially from 3.5 - 8.0
As I intend to shoot many wide landscapes in UTAH I am thinking of switching to the Leica 8-18 lens and a variable ND for that.
Any suggestions? Would a variable ND work on the Leica or would I be better placed to get a fixed ND at say ND64 or 128?
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.....

@Rodney Parmenter - The Sigma 18-35mm with Speedbooster combination is quite amazing and will be faster. But it's a heavier setup and longer focal distance than the 12-35mm. I have been shooting with GH2, GH3, and GH4 for years and years. I find that I tend to use the 12-35mm more than any other combination of lenses with my panasonic cameras. It's definitely worth owning. I would get both if you could.

  4. In my previous comment I meant to say the Panasonic 12-35mm. Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 vs Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 w/Speedbooster EF to M43? For the money which is better? The Panasonic 12-35mm has image stabilization... Although with the DEC I can use my other Canon lenses. There is also the Panasonic 12-60mm as well. Thanks for your feedback!

  5. I just bought the GH5 and I still have the GH4. I don't own a SpeedBooster, but I do have a cheap EF to MFT. I own Canon lenses- 16-35, 24-105, 70-200. Do you think I should sell them and buy this new 8-18, and the 12-25mm? I love the Canon glass but I just wonder if I'd get better results with Panasonic lenses. Thanks!

How big do you think the ND filter size has to be? I'm hoping my 77mm will be out of frame.
