Here's a simple product that just makes life a little more simpler. The FlareDinkum Compact or Pro Lens Flag provides a simple solution for lens shade without having to carry around a large mattebox or when using ND filters and Various Lenses. There is a 1/4-20 female thread under the hotshoe mount if you want to mount it to some other area on your rig.

I've also used it in situations where i'm trying to keep a bit of rain off the front of my lens. The Dinkum Systems FlareDinkum is available in a variety of sizes from small to large, and this video shows the Compact version for smaller DSLR style cameras. You can find the FlareDinkum via Amazon (Click Here).

This lens shade is useful on mid-sized video cameras too. Many times, TikTak, there's no place to clamp or screw a friction arm on to a small video camera or a DSLR. This is great solution - a hot-shoe mounted french flag.

Thanks for the great review CheesyCam team! We find this little guy super useful not just to prevent flare but also for keeping dust and drizzle of a lens when shooting outdoors.
@Neil, you're 100% right in saying this is the baby brother of the clamping french flag that the company owner (a working DP) invented back in 1996. We've been selling those products for 17 years through Filmtools, Mole-Richardson etc - this is a item from our "new" line of consumer products.
@Kelly - you'd need a multiple hot shoe adaptor to pair this product with Pocketwizard which is one of the reasons we've made our flag lightweight enough to combine with other kit.
@Marshall - the flag is non-reflective aluminum hence the price point - it's a bomber little piece of gear that will last a long time...
Cheers, Andi 🙂

Post author@Kelly - This one has a 1/4-20 thread under the shoe mount, but they also sell versions that can be clamped.

Post author@Neil - Thanks for pointing that out. Yes these have been around for decades, which is why I didn't use the words 'new' or 'innovative'. This is although the first time i'm showing this type of product on this blog.

Pretty cool, but for what it is, I'd think it should be more in the $18-21 range rather than $35+.

Not exactly a crazy new innovation - it's called a French Flag and has been around for decades. Still, nice to see one that is cheap.

That looks to be a great idea......however, how do you attach a pocketwizard to it?

Why use this with a mattebox like in the photo? Ridiculous.
For me lens hood or a pice of paper will do the same.
TikTak
with so many friction arms available having this dedicated accessory seems overkill.
Hampus
that is a really brilliant solution!
