11Feb Yongnuo YN-300 LED Video Light Test
Here’s a follow up video about the new Yongnuo YN-300 LED Video Light shared to us by Vimeo member Dzygit. This was an LED light that was posted on this blog a few weeks back, and you can find more comments from other users at the original article (click here).
The tests basically show variable output combined with varying shutter speeds to tests against flickering. Details state that no flickering was detected, and the YN-300 LED Video light can be found via eBay (Click Here)

I ordered two of these myself recently and I’m very impressed with the cost/performance. No issues at all. Flickering side effects are not present under any reseasonable shutter speeds. Build quality is great–very light yet rigid and tough. Dimming knob is responsive. Overall the only con I can find is the lack of 1/4-20 thread on the light itself, but this can be solved by a cheap hotshoe-to-1/4-40 thread adapter. Also, the filters tend to fall out a little too easily when tipped on the open side, so I may add a little felcro or something–not a serious issue that couldn’t be modified. Overall 4.5/5.0!!
I’m using them as backlight/kicker/accent fixtures in combo with my CFL softboxes for mobile field shoots.

@dzygit. Do you know from what shutter speeds does the light flicker? This is important to consider if you plan to use extreme slow motion software (like twixtor) and motion blur needs to be keep at minimum.
Thanks.

Anyone know the light output on this? Is it roughly one stop brighter than say the 160 LED lights by Neewer? I currently have one of those but I feel like I need a bit more light output.

I got this too. It’s surprisingly bright. Very happy with it.

I did run a test at night with the filters and the SOS mode on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k21hAE7B8Zk

Just to let people know, there is a 1/4″ thread on the bottom of the freestanding base. Not the greatest option I know, but that’s how I mount it on lightstands for now.
