30Apr Varavon Slidecam ‘Slim’
Olivia talks to Eric from International Supplies about a few of Varavon’s products. One product is the Slidecam Slim slider that is said to hold up to 41lbs (that’s pretty hefty), comes with a Video Head, legs, and travel bag. This new all aluminum Slim Slider will weigh about 2.5kg and be available in 1m length. Sounds pretty cool so far. Varavon has a few different model sliders available, and below is a comparison chart.

One Slidecam Slim showed up on eBay for an asking price of $550, which is almost twice the price of the current popular Konova slider. Pricing has always been an obstacle for Varavon products so far, so let’s hope that’s not going to be the retail. You can find other Varavon products including their popular View Finder products on eBay following the link.

Is that a Zoom H1 being used as a handheld mic and then synch to post?

@getem – Yes. Half the team went on break with the Microphones, so we quickly used the Zoom H1 for the mic.

Looks like theyve either rebadged or kindly imitated the Konova, and thrown in a 717h.
Except i dont see no beefy end plates to mount it vertically.

Those legs seem to be the exact same kind that Konova uses.

@Kelly – To be correct, Varavon had a slider before Konova.

The slider doesn’t look very stable. Seems like the operator will have to do most of the stabilizing job. Pass.

These sliders are so expensive. I found a rowing machine in the trash yesterday and extracted a 1 meter long aluminum extrusion with a slider cart with urethane wheels and bearings. Drilled a couple holes and mounted my head on it, shot some footage last night and it looks amazing. DIY forever.

Do we know if there is a difference between the Konova and Varavon models? The rumor floating around is that Konova is just a rebranded variant paint scheme of the Varavon. Does this mean that a Konova slim will be coming out soon?
Also, if you add the optional head to the Konova model, it begins to approach the Varavon price. Unfortunately, I’ve looked in all the dumpsters nearby and haven’t found any rowing machines, so I think I’ll have to go with a low-cost slider.

@che – Actually they are two different sliders. They are not the same, nor are they rebranded. They do use the same sort of linear guide rail.
