I'll be honest i've been out of the loop with what's going on with the Swivi LCD, but it did get a fairly decent review from EOSHD.com. It basically adds a large 5.6" LCD to cameras that lack a Vari-Angle LCD, and provides Focus Peaking, and HDMI pass through. Below is the demo video about the Swivi product features.
Just got news that the Swivi 5.6" HDMI LCD is having a 24 hour sale (also includes LP-E6 type battery and charger). Most retailers are offering product from $370-470 dollars, but for the next 24 hour sale it's been listed at $275 via Amazon (Click Here).
I had the chance to play with a prototype of this monitor, but still have not had the chance to see the final version. I hear it's been upgraded quite a bit on build quality and software menu. I remember a few people commented on this blog that they picked one up at PDN New York last month. Where's the reviews? Hopefully i'll still be able to check out the final version at some point.
The 'Swivi' (Swi-vee) is a 5.6" LCD HDMI monitor that attaches like a battery grip to any camera with a tripod mount (not just Canon). The Swivi display connects with an HDMI cable, offers and HDMI pass through, and is powered through a Canon LP-E6. An optional sunshade can be purchased and there is focus peaking available in the monitor. The first units are now available on eBay (click here)
A video I shot several weeks ago, but decided not to post (the product wasn't announced yet). Now that it's been shown at PDN New York, here's a look at this unit with a Canon 5D Mark II + Battery Grip + Rode VideoMic Pro (showing access to audio ports). Keep in mind that this was possibly the very very first prototype released from the factory.
Shown in this video is a very very early mockup, and not completely relevant to the product being sold today. Software and build quality have been changed since. I still have not seen the final version, but supposedly it had great response at the PDN Show this past week. I hope to see a final version of the product once it's available online at http://www.SwiviUSA.com, which is said to be in two weeks.
