09Oct XCAM Sabre Mini Video Stabilizer Review

When i’m traveling with a stabilizer, my goal is always to travel as light as possible while still being able to pull off long smooth dolly-like shots at my destination. Here’s a closer look at the new XCAM Sabre Mini Video Stabilizer that I think addresses those two main points for me.
Off the top [...]

14Aug Wieldy II Stabilizer Vest System

Earlier this year, I showed off a Wieldy Stabilizer Vest system that finally met my needs to fly a lightweight camera setup. The vest was able to fly both my simple Canon 5D Mark III as well as my BlackMagic Design Cinema Camera. If you’re interested, you can see that original video and article (found [...]

28Nov Wieldy HDV PRO Iron Triangle Carbon Fiber Video Camera Stabilizer

A few others have already received their Wieldy stabilizers and have also posted up little video reviews like YouTube member Nitsan Simantov and YouTube member Chrisbottrellphoto. I received my version quite a while ago, but am only getting to posting something now. Here’s a closer look at what these new Wieldy Carbon Fiber Video Camera [...]

09Apr Canon 5D Mark III + Sigma 20mm on Skyler MiniCam

Today I decided to try and balance the Canon 5D Mark III with a Sigma 20mm F/1.8 lens on the Skyler MiniCam. Sorry I don’t have any interesting test footage right now, but i’ll be shooting something later on today (which is why i’m balancing it). Still very happy I was able to find one [...]

07Apr Solowheel Gyro Stabilized Self Balancing Wheel

Running around with a Steadicam is possible, but besides tiring out the operator, it’s also hard to get rid of that stomping movement. Roller Blades are clever, but it’s not something that will travel through grass or gravel. The more popular solution for fast movements with a Steadicam is the Segway (as seen above). A [...]

23Jan Steady Dragon Camera Stabilizer

There’s a million different little stabilizers on the market, but about a month ago (maybe a bit longer), the Steady Dragon brand upgraded the Gimbal to a universal joint. This type of gimbal provides the maximum amount of range compared to the little Ball-and-Socket type like found in the Hague MMC. The Steady Dragon [...]

21Jan Skyler MiniCam DSLR Video Stabilizer

The Skyler MiniCam has been a work in progress floating around the Internet for a very long time, but this is the first time i’ve seen it available on eBay. A clever little stabilizer which stands on it’s own like a tripod, looks to have great build quality, and very simple fine tuning knobs. A [...]

04Jan Life After Death – Steadicam Vest

Preparing for a last minute shoot today, I found my Steadicam Merlin Vest had cracked on the upper chest piece. Crap. The quick fix for me today was to use the top portion of the Konova Vest and mate it with the Steadicam Merlin Arm (which is held on with the waist area). There was [...]

12Sep DIY Steadicam – Ladder Bracket

Starting with a basic Ladder Hanging Bracket found at Home Depot, Vimeo member StudioAmarelo was able to create this DIY Steadicam. The Gimbal is based on WSClater’s Traxxas U-joint design. From there it’s a matter of placing weights in the right spot. You can find some additional information at the video link (here). [Thanks Garrick]

16Jul Playing with Glidecam and other Gear

click image for available Steadicam Glidecam gear
Droppin’ dollars into Glidecam gear is quite an investment if you’re not familiar with how one works. In fact, you might even find that ‘flying’ a camera is not something you’re quite into. If you already own one, maybe your thinking about testing out the arm brace or Vest [...]

15Jul Testing a Stabilizer w/ Vest and Arm

Testing out some new gear here. Purposely a very poor image with badges erased. The vest and arm are very impressive, but we’ll see how the actual stabilizer performs. It’s not a Steadicam or Glidecam brand name. Unless you can tell which one this is by the image, i’ll have a review on this item [...]

08Jul Tokina’s 11-16mm Available

Thanks to an email from Matt, The Tokina 11-16mm is back in stock. This was my first ‘Tokina’ brand lens I picked up because of some excellent reviews and I admit this thing has become one of my favorite wide lenses for cropped cameras like the T2i, T3i, 60D, or 7D. It is possible to [...]

19May Flycam Nano, Flycam Nano DSLR, Flycam 3000

I think i’ve received at least 2 questions/day since this new ‘Flycam Nano DSLR’ had been advertised online. It’s quite confusing since there already is a Flycam Nano that supports DSLRs. This one claims to be better and can handle more weight. Of course it does! It’s bigger and looks almost exactly like the Flycam [...]

08May IndieHardware Stabilizer Mod

Aaron of Winnipeg shows us how he mods the IndieHardware Video Camera stabilizer. This is one of the cheapest stabilizers I’ve reviewed on this blog that was able to balance a 5D Mark II + Sigma 20mm Lens. That’s about all I was willing to push, but Aaron’s managed to practically double that up while [...]

25Feb 352 LED Ring light on Arri Alexa

Gustavo from www.o2lighting.com writes in and provides a few BTS images of the 352 LED Ring Light on an Arri Alexa! That’s one fancy camera, and i’m glad to see this thing in use by these guys. It definitely is a kick-ass ENG Light. Traditionally most people want to use this light by putting the [...]

28Jan Glidecam HD1000 vs. Flycam Nano

These are two of the most popular and smallest DSLR stabilizers. I’m not going to say one is better than the other when it comes down to the actual video footage. End results between these two micro flyers would be the same once you have them fine tuned and balanced. The main differences to consider [...]
