11Feb Samyang 24mm F/1.4 Lens Discounted
Since the Rokinon 24mm F/1.4 had been released, i’ve kept a close eye on it. I haven’t decided to pick it up just yet mainly because I was working with the Full Frame cameras. Now that i’ve been using the BlackMagic Design Cinema camera and Micro Four Thirds GH3, i’m finding this focal length is much needed.
Typically ranging $600+ dollars, today there is a discount for the Samyang branded version for just $499. That’s a pretty decent price for this lens. Sale is for the next couple of weeks, and you can check it out via B&H (click here).

Damn – just bought the Rokinon version of this lens for $615.
Incidentally – the Rokinon version of the lens was listed on BHPhoto for $699 about a week ago, which is why I went with Adorama ($615.) Now it’s $599 on the BHPhoto website.

Hi Emm,
Is this just the same as the Rokinon 24 mm cine lens 1.5? What is their comparison.
Thank you

@Alvin – The lens is the same as the Rokinon 24mm (non-Cine). When it’s labeled as ‘Cine’, they de-clicked the aperture, changed the focus markings, and installed lens gears on the housing for follow focus systems.

So basically for using the video mode, the quality for both lenses will perform the same. But if you’re not using any follow focus, this is a good deal, for a difference of $250.
Thanks Emm for the answers.

@Alvin – Yes, but keep in mind that the aperture will ‘not perform the same’ because the Cine lens has a de-clicked aperture ring.

Unless you are adapting to the Micro 4/3 system with an adapter that has a “declicked” aperture control like the Novoflex.

Looks like there’s still a good deal on the Rokinon version at 529.99:

@jeff – There’s a current deal going for less than that here: http://cheesycam.com/samyang-24mm-f1-4-lens-discounted/

Really wished these were the cine version but for the $200 off I might just have to jump on this deal. Got a few weeks to decide.

There is a video on YouTube showing you how to de-click the aperture…. it looks pretty straightforward. And I actually like the focus ring on the non-cine version – it’s really easy to grab, and is nice for run and gun.
