Ready for 4K? Preorder your Panasonic DMC-GH4 Tonight

Panasonic GH4 pre-Order

Emails are going out about Preorders for the new Panasonic's latest 4K capable mirrorless DMC-GH4. If you have not had the chance to secure your place in line for GH4, tonight at midnight retailers should be opening up the 'add to cart' option.

I would suggest using the 'notify' options in the websites below just to make sure you're getting notifications. This should be a pretty hot camera, and possibly a hard one to get a hold of after it starts shipping. If you're still on the fence, you may want to just go for the pre-order and hold your place in line. According to the actual ship date (late April / May) you'll have several weeks for a chance to cancel or modify your order - should you change your mind.

Here's a few links below to the items that should go live tonight via Adorama.

It's possible to order something from Panasonic's website, but when I was ready to check out it totaled over $4K. Many of you will find up to a $700 dollar difference via B&H (no added tax, free shipping, and bundle deal). Check out the Panasonic GH4 products via B&H (I got my order in for the combo…)

  1. this is actually the first camera that I've decided to pre-order. just got two bodies through emm's link even though as an international order I have to pay upfront.

The GH3 is pretty much problem free and GH4 construction uses mostly the same components. It took the GH3 over a year to drop in price below its MSRP. I don't see the GH4 being discounted anytime soon.

well more and more tablet/notebook offering QHD+ (3200x1800) resolution, FHD just isn't going to cut it in the future.

@Verm - 4K will get a huge boost this year, and there are plenty of reasons to dive in - but only if you need it. I think RAW 1080 will still have a very long life. Cameras are capable of higher resolutions, but it seems viewers are also watching more content on low resolution screens (phones / tablets) and on compressed streams. I would think about who you are trying to cater to, understand your client or audience and find what works.

  5. I can't wait to get my hands on that thing! There is a big debate on whether to go with the BMPCC or the GH4. I know it's still a bit early to call it, but what are your thoughts on this dilemma? 8bit 4:2:0 4K or 1080p RAW?

@efex - I'm pretty sure you will still need some type of external recorder for the best video, but it will eliminate the need for an external audio recorder as it is supposed to simulate a 'preamp' with XLR inputs and gain controls.

No they built this camera to accomodate only one kind of lens. They dont make an adapter.

yes, you can get them for $20 on Amazon.
    Google search.

Even though my GH3 is 10 months old, curiosity is killing me about the Gh4.
I may click the link to add this to my GH3 and GH2 family.

@Emm - will the YAGH eliminate the need for an external recorder by recording directly into the camera.

I am going to wait until more reviews coming out and maybe when it is on sale :) learned not to be an early adopter (just look at Tascam dr-60d... it was $350 now $189)...
