31Jan P&C Pistol Grips – Now Available
Above is an old video I did a few months ago showing the new P&C (photographyandcinema.com) Pistol Grips and more importantly, explaining why we decided to make them. These unique wide platform handles make shooting video with small cameras more ergonomic and stable. We’ve had prototypes of these Pistol Grips for several months already, and have been using them quite a bit for casual news gathering and event coverage.

Our primary setup to cover Las Vegas PMA @ CES 2012 with Olivia, was based on two P&C Pistol Grips and a friction arm. We attached the camera on one handle and the LED light on the other. We simplified the audio by just using a Zoom H1 portable audio recorder for the interviews. Although it may not have been the best video quality from the Sony HX9V point and shoot cameras, we were able to travel extremely light and get the job done to provide content for the viewers.
Come time for MacWorld in San Francisco just a few weeks ago, we decided to cover the event entirely on the iPhone 4s using the same Two Grip setup. The iPhone video isn’t quite up to par compared to the Sony, but we definitely were able to turn some heads at the event. You’ll start to see some of those videos online soon.

The Grips will come with a D-Ring so you can attach it to a keyring and have it readily available on your gear bag. You can find the new P&C Pistol Grips available PhotographyandCinema.com (for USA only), and via eBay for both USA and International (click here).

Hello! I love all of your posts and Olivia’s too. I’m sure you hear it all the time, but you have been a life saver as I have ventured into DSLR filmmaking.
Anyway, I have to ask, what mini tripod did you use to mod the grip into a Striker type rig because that is awesome and the price is right!
Thanks!

Wondering about usability in marine environments. Are there any parts in these that will corrode if used in or around chlorinated water or saltwater?

@Whitney – It is a Calumet one I had from here http://cheesycam.com/diy-mini-shoulder-brace-mini-tripod/

@Rick – Hmm. Good question. The top steel thread might, but you could give it a good rinse I guess, maybe some light oil if you plan to use it in that manner.

Looks great! What grip was used to attach the iPhone? I’m looking for something to help me get decent video out of my iPhone 4s when not carrying around my dslr.

@Johan – Same P&C grip with a small ball head + Shark Clip. The Shark clip is found on the PhotographyandCinema.com website too.

Emm, thx for this one. I can see this grip can have so much potential for DIY. I really recommend ppl from this blog to send you all sorts of crazy, cool, innovative ideas of how they would use this grip and you can post a collection of them in the near future.
I am definitely getting this grip. The question is “how many?”

Thanks! In case you haven’t seen it, here’s what looks to be a great iPhone mount that I will probably go for: http://www.studioneat.com/products/glifplus
February 1st, 2012 at 12:37 pm
@Johan – The Glif is an awesome product. But it only works for iPhone and they charge $19.99 (seen here). The P&C shark clip can quickly clamp various cameras or cell phones and is only $6.99 + Free Shipping.

My “nightrider” gopro rig looks very similiar to that pic with the gopro and lcd screen. Except instead of the LCD screen I have the z96 light and I used an L bracket instead of the pistol grip!
CRAZY! Now I want the pistol grip. stop posting cool stuff, kthx

Emm would it be possible to use these as rig handles? I have the Magic Rig you featured on this blog and the one thing that lets it down is the handle.
February 3rd, 2012 at 7:37 am
@chriswatts – There is a 1/4 small stud on the handle. Not sure how you would go about mounting it to that rig.
July 24th, 2012 at 2:45 pm
Hi Emm,
What LCD light did you use on this rig?
Thanks.

@Pharoah – We used the Bi-Color LED lights because of the mixed lighting at the convention. The 312 LED and 240 LED.
