25Sep Nikon D600 with P&C GearBox Video Cage Bracket
Wanting to test out video features on the new Nikon D600, I needed to check if it fits in the P&C GearBox so that I can start mounting the accessories. It’s short enough to fit in the GearBox without the extension adapters, and you still have full access to media and batteries.

Is it possible to purchase longer extension rods or extra extensions to enable the cage to be used with a 5DII with battery grip and quick release Manfrotto plate. I’m liking the cage but I want to be able to switch the camera body quickly from tripod head, monopod etc to within the cage and like many shooters I use a lot of Manfrotto 577 style plates on gear for that. Thanks.

Hi…
I have the GH1 from Panasonic.
Can I use the GearBox GB-2 – Video Accessory Cage w/ 15mm Rod Adapter with GH1 and the upcoming GH3 ?
In my camera there is an attached manfrotoo 200pl-14 plate because I am always switching the camera from my monopod to the slider to the tripod to the steadicam… so with the attached plate it is easy to connect to the heads on those equipments . With the Gear box I can maintain the plate attached to my camera ?
The 15mm rod is a standard measure ? Can I attach another’s company gear like a follow focus latter if I need ?

Hey Emm
I’ve been toying with switching from Canon to Nikon and getting the D600. I was a fairly early adopter of HDSLR video, getting the 7D on it’s release. In the past couple years I’ve really gotten into photography as well, and am really attracted to the D600’s image quality specs.
Fortunately I haven’t invested a bunch of money in glass yet (50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8 and 11-16mm 2.8) as I’ve been saving up for the 70-200mm 2.8.
I’m would love your thoughts on the D600 compared to the 7D as a video shooter.

So what does the Gearbox look like with a GoPro in it? Is it a bit of overkill?

I can’t wait to see a GH3 in a gearbox once it’s available. It’s only slightly smaller than the D600.

@Mark Fogarty – I was pretty impressed with the Nikon D800, and so I thought i’d give the D600 a try. So far it looks great, but I need to get more lenses to test with.

@labalbi – Both cameras will fit, but you won’t be able to access the battery door. I would suggest using a quick release baseplate inside the GearBox so you can pull your camera in an out, so you can leave your plate on your camera.

Excellent news on the extension rods! I recently tried to mount my T4i with grip and Carry Speed VF3 only to find the combo wouldn’t work.

@Emm – That’s too bad about the battery door on the GH cameras. Even with the battery grip on the GH3…it might fit with the risers in the cage but the battery comes out the side and still might not come out clean.
Sounds like the AC power adapter will be available right away…hopefully the plug on the dummy battery works with the Tekkeon power pack…that could be a killer combination.

Have you had a chance to try the D600 with the Atomos Ninja yet? Are you getting black bars all sides of the output? I ran across a blog where the guy said he was and couldn’t figure out a solution. I will by this if there bars can be removed, or if he had a faulty camera/Ninja/cable.

Hey Emm… have you had a chance to work out the D600 yet? Because I’ve been getting more and more into photography as well, I’m sorely tempted to sell my 7D & lenses for the D600.

@Mark Fogarty – I haven’t collected enough Nikon lenses to judge, but the quality is very good and it has the full frame advantage over the 7D.

@gamos – There is a cut out that allows you to change batteries on the D600.
