In order to save your swing out LCD on your Canon 60D or T3i, CarrySpeed looks to have added a new metal frame that doesn't stick to the glass. This new version attaches under the camera at the tripod mount, but still keeps one available in case you need to go to monopod / tripod mode. A nice touch for those who have problems with the metal sticky falling off, or for those who still want to flip the LCD back into the DSLR body for protection.

Heck, why not just permanently glue that sucker onto the Metal frame? You'll have a solid LCD ViewFinder for sure, and with a twist of a knob, it's off when you need it off. Oh and there's a pretty hefty price drop going on..

@Sarah - Check out some Letus ViewFinders. They have something that works with DSLR cameras + battery grips.

I have the carry speed one and it has mediocre build quality. magnets fall out and the magnet that is stuck to my camera (t2i) doesnt line up even with lcd.

  3. Have you checked out this new gadget from the same manufacturer? (Carry Speed)
    http://carryspeed.com/
    (look under "products/Swi-View")
Apparently it's a neoprene holder for the viewfinder. Any viewfinder, by the way, not just the Carry Speed (kinda like that).
Just uses plain ole Velcro to fix it to the 60D / T3i swivel screen. No screws, no glue, no bat-pack or tripod plate restraints.
I think it's brilliant! Just what I was looking for!
    Anyone out there tried it?
    How about their viewfinder?
Apart from Greg nobody mentions it here (only the "Meike" one they hate). Does it fog up too?

Can anyone tell me if i can use my manfrotto quick release plate instead of using that big knob to attach thr frame to my 60d. Or can somebody take a picture of the knob with the quick release attached to it. Thank you.

@VJ - The screw on frame might not be aligned, but the Sticky Frame will fit over the GH2. Here's what it would look like. It's just about 1mm of extra spacing all the way around.

Does anyone know if this viewfinder would fit a Panasonic GH1/GH2? My GH1 has a 3:2 screen and I was wondering if anyone has tried it out to see if it fits well and if there's any cropping.

anyone have an url for someone selling these individually? I just need the frame to fit my meike.

Got the VF in and have to say that I really like it. Well worth the price. I had to slightly bend the frame so that it would sit completely even with the screen, but other than that it works great!

...regarding the extra height from the carryspeed 60D frame, it can be removed from the knob and you can mount your QR plate directly under it to the camera...so if using vari-angle powers is not an issue to you, this is a solution that will reduce the additional height of the threaded knob...i suspect that you could, with a slightly longer QR plate screw, mount the carryspeed strap mount in addition to the frame mount...both without the turning knobs...gonna try that. ordering the CS1 strap in a few days...or after this photoshoot

@pm5tr - Thew viewfinder itself will work on the frame. The ViewFinder has not changed, only the frame has an additional mounting point.

I ordered the CarrySpeed 3:2 for the 550d when it was released, but it broke. Does this vf work with the 550d version frame that is already attached to the camera? I'm just trying to swap the viewifinder itself. I guess it's the same since the lcd sizes are the same. Could anyone confirm?

just got mine...attaching it now...works very well...cannot use with batt grip...though there is a slight gap between the frame and the lcd, it does not allow any detrimental amt of light to enter the loupe...only difficulty i find is when viewfinding in vari-angle positions...the stickyframe would work better there...but if you are straight on shooting or using an LCD monitor, this is a great backup... as for the raised tripod mount, it is to be noted that it can swivel if you place too much torque on it when using it on tripod...otherwise this thing is GREAT!...worth the minimal cost many X over...

  13. I already have the LCDVF so I just bought the screw on frame for $5.99 off Amazon. Finally something for the 60D!

Just got this VF in the mail. I got it for my T2i even though I knew it probably wouldn't fit perfectly, but the screw mount sounded better than sticking something to my camera. It works, but it covers up part of the buttons but you can still get to them. It also crops part of the screen, but in video mode it is only the gray bars that get cropped. It also does not lay perfectly flat at the top of the screen, so a little light gets in but I just went outside and you could barely tell a difference. Build quality is good though and I am sure it is much better on the camera it was made for. But for this price, I can live with a few negatives since I don't have to stick anything to the camera. I would definitely get this if you have a T3i or 60D

Glad to see a legitimate commercial solution for the 60D finally offered. I was planning to build the same sort of bracket when I purchased the vfinder but now I don't have to. Thanks for the link!

@alex: I have the same meike one. It fogs up on me as well. The frame doesn't fit 100% of the lcd of my 60d. It does the trick though. However, the frame recently came off...so I am considering this carry speed one. Any comments for the guys who got this carry speed lcdvf?

  17. Hey, I bought a cheap eBay viewfinder a couple month ago... The package said if is a meike.... Here is my problem.... That sucker foggs up all the time! 30sec after putting my eye on it I see the picture getting blurry.... Water seems to condensate on the glass piece..... Do you guys have similar problem..... also my frame keeps falling off.... What can you use to stick to to my screenprotector? Double sided tape?

    Thanks...

@J hanna - If the lcd is th same as T2I it would, but not sure about the tripod mountng hole.

  20. Hmm, odd question. Would the t2i sized lcdvf fit on the canon s95?
Which I just ordered...as my backup camera! Woot! I played with it in the store for 3 minutes and I had to own one. Came home and immediately double checked cheesycam if it was ever discussed. Which it was. Which is why it will be on its way to me in 3 days.
