26Jan Litepanels MicroPro vs. Konova Ledgo CN-B150 LED Showdown
Dave Dugdale over at LearningDSLRVideo.com, puts the Litepanels MicroPro up against the Konova Ledgo CN-B150 LED. It’s not surprising that the overall light output fails against some of these cheaper LED video lights, as we’ve seen it fail against the $70 dollar Z96 LED Video Light
and also the $150 312 LED video light.
Of course light output isn’t everything, when you consider the quality of light. Still, Konova’s branded LED light for a third the price holds up pretty well. Next to consider is build quality, and the Litepanels for over $350 bucks doesn’t shine too well in both the plastic housing and dimmer electronics. The Konova LED light also has an option to ’stack’ amongst each other to create one large panel. It’s also nice to see that the much cheaper option can fair pretty high shutter speeds without banding. [Thanks Dave] You can find the Konova 150 LED video light at their store (click here).

I seriously can’t stand Litepanels. Overpriced like crazy. I was using my z96 lights on a shoot and some guy with a litepanel was taken back by how powerful the z96 was.
Name recognition is something you can’t stop but I think more and more people are going to see Litepanels for who they are. Don’t get me wrong, some of their stuff is built very well.

Litepanels is the Monster Cable of Led panels.

No wonder they are trying to block all other LED light sales… The w96 does not look so bad at all now does it?

Mr. Emm what led light would you recommend for under $120?

While I think Litepanels makes overpriced gear, their light clearly has much, much better color temperature.

I agree with Rabi. I own 7 LEDs…from the 500 down to the z96. And you know what? each one is a different color when I have them all set to daylight. Now I need to do a gel balancing act.
Yes, the knock off leds are suuuuuper cheap. But split the difference in price and get me better color accurate LEDs.

I have yet to see anyone in a run and gun situation or for small interviews for that matter really bitch about the color temperature not being right on these cheaper LED’s in any shoot I been in.
Although I did bitch myself on the greenish tint of the W96 but its an east fix in post.
In camera white balance , problem fixed.

Hi Emm,
Do you have a link to a mount for a 2x side by side mount? and or 4×4 mount stacked Z96 to light stand setup.
I’m also wondering if the rubberized model works with the original as far as stacking. Please let me know your thoughts. I own the original and am looking to buy more for more output as a fill or hair…

Yea, I agree with Serge. Why all the comments about “inconsistent” color temps. If you need multiple LED units…buy ONE brand that offers the most accuracy and light output. I dont hear people complaining about bad color temps of tungsten lighting lol. 18%BGW the shot then grade in post. On a lighter note. What cracks me up is that Konova pic of 9 LED lights stacked on a dslr hotshoe. Yea, I’d like to see that in action run/gun. lol

@Danny – The rubberized one is not from the same company, but yes they can also stack together. Something like this will hold two lights on a lightstand or hot shoe: Vbracket Hot Shoe Dual Bracket for Video Lights, Microphones or Monitors

Thanks Emm,
I’ve seen that bracket here before. I’m wondering if there is a bracket that would mount the Z96’s on the two 1/4 20’s or a single mount between the heads, so mounting down the center of the 2 or 4 light setup. Maybe there is a 1/4 20 bracket that mounts on the bottom and in between (center) the 2 side by side or 4×4.
I guess if you mount 4×4 Z96’s, how do mount that on a stand from your experience. When you have a moment.
Thanks again.

I’m with Serge. I simply use in camera white balance and problem solved. A slight tint is not going to keep me from saving sooooo much money. The tint is a easy fix. Personally I welcome a slight variation in color, it allows me to be more creative. That may just be me being unorthodox.

Serge, +1

yeah agreed, I’m not having any Issues with my $5 ring lights. the color temp isn’t precise but it’s easy to fix, even in camera.
haha, another example of how much Litepanels aren’t so great..

I have a Litepanels Sola ENG and use it as a key for interviews in a pinch. Love it. Dim able, focasable, barn doors, and rugged construction.

A cheaper way for these companies to do a quick fix is to supply a CTO and CTB filter with more accurate color. Most of the filters they supply really suck. I have a couple rolls of gel that I can cut to size and doesn’t rob too much light.
January 29th, 2012 at 8:34 pm
If feel like this guy had no idea what he is talking about! He does not even know what CTB does come on people. Think this was a really bad test and they if you have no idea what ur talking about you should not make a video about these LEDs

@Cuthbert – Hard to argue with results. These were the most basic tests, and I think the conclusion was spot on between the differences.
