Konova Full Video Shoulder Rig Matte Box Follow Focus Bundle

Wondlan-Rig.

(Above) That's the Wondlan Shoulder Rig, that comes with the shoulder pad, two handles, a swing away Matte Box, Top handle, Side Brackets, etc. You know i'm not even sure if that comes with a follow focus, but you'll find a setup like this going for about $1800+ dollars (see here).

Konova today posted up their slimmed down version of such a rig (above). Parts are definitely not from Wondlan, and it looks like they have an RJ Matte Box + RJ Follow Focus. Same overall design with one side bracket, top handle, shoulder pad, two long grips, and a rear mounting plate. Some of the pieces I've seen before, and some other ones like the locking handles i've never seen on other rigs. Konova listed this kit for $1100 dollars cheaper than Wondlan's, and there's some additional photos following the link (click here).

The Wondlan comes with a follow focus and also a 7 inch external monitor, as well as a 2.5x viewfinder magnifier.

Which should perhaps make up slightly for the differences in price! just pointing it out..

Just wondering if anyone has purchased this rig or heard anything about it. It seems like a good deal and I am very interested, but I am not sure of the quality of this konova gear. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

@mike_tee_vee - I can only fly a Steadicam for a few minutes at a time. It's mostly designed for times when the camera has to move around, but you purposely want the horizon level. It's not something I would use for a stationary type shot, and it requires you to balance it anytime you add any small piece of equipment.

Emm, in your shooting, when would you use a shoulder rig, and when would you use a stabilizer (steadicam, glidecam, etc)?

Between a shoulder rig and stabilizer, which gets the most use?

I must admit that I'm a bit floored by the cost effectiveness of this small rig. And to come with a matte box and follow focus? What's the catch? Any hands on experience? I want to be compulsive, but I defer to the better thinkers of this site. Suggestions, conversations to be had?
