Kamerar MagView Magnetic LCD ViewFinder – Three Sizes

If you didn't catch the newsletter announcement, the Kamerar MagView LCD ViewFinder has been released in three different sizes. The new Magview attaches to a metal frame that adheres to the back of your camera's LCD. You can separate the body to be used as a sunhood, and the MagView also offers a 2.5x diopter.

Unfortunately not one will fit the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera perfectly. I'm pretty bummed about that, but maybe if we leave enough comments, they'll pick back up on the project. Right now if you need an LCD View Finder for your BMPCC, your best choices will be either the Zacuto or Kinotehnik LCDVF.

Just in case you were curious, the closest MagView for the BMPCC will be the 16:9 version. It's tall enough, but not wide enough so it will crop the image. Here's an animated image below that shows you how the frame would mount, and where the cropping would occur.

Although it can fit many of the DSLR cameras on the market, an affordable $45 dollar viewfinder like this is probably suited for many of the high end point and shoot cameras.

The 4:3 version works perfectly on my Sony RX100 without having to add a hefty baseplate, and also to leave quick access to my battery door / sdhc card. You can find more information about the Kamerar MagView at the product page.

i agree with you marino. i think they made a deal with zacuto. sucks for all bmpcc users. im very disappointed they dont have one for bmpcc.

This is a real bummer, because alot of people use BMPCC and would buy it, BUT of course they didn't see this article or don't know about this viewfinder. Kamerar should check with BHphoto and Adorama how many people buying BMPCC and how most of them are not happy with Zakuto or Kinotehnik, especially because they are very expensive.

I have the suspect the discontinued the Magview for BMPCC
because they reached an agreement with Zacuto, so less competion
more possibility to abuse with prices for Zacuto and sell
a 50 dollar stuff at 4 time it's price. Do you see any other explanation?
If so, please Kamerar and other people find a decent explanation.
We would all have bought their viewfinder for BMPCC, they knew and
they decided differently. So strange. This is my humble opinion I have no proof
and this is just an hypothesis.

@Aleks - They list exact specs on the product page. I would measure your LCD and figure out which one works.

    Hi Emm,

Did you test any on the 5D Mark 3?

In such case which one and did it fit perfectly for 100% view?

@Brandon - Off the top of m head I'm not sure, but they provide pretty specific measurements. If you can measure your LCD screen, you could see which would work best.

Hey Emm! So when you tested the MagView a while back...it was the 16:9 you were using and not an actual prototype for the BMPCC? Because I am really wondering why they would discontinue the project if they have already tooled for that prototype? Thanks

@Matt - Yes one will fit. I think the 4:3 will work, but once you stick the frame to the lcd, you can only fold it back into the camera with lcd facing out.
