Genustech received plenty of media coverage regarding their new GoPro Hero3 Cage, so i'm sure many have you have already heard of it. It's hefty, built like a tank, offers dozens of mounting points, and even allows for 52mm threaded filters (ND, CPL, etc) to be used to control your image. With quite a few GoPro cages already on the market, is the Genustech the right one for you? Here's a video overview of the Genustech GoPro Cage features.
Build quality is really good and there's a lot of metal for the $99 dollar price tag. It's a nice touch to be able to support the GoPro in it's case, or naked (cam only). Unfortunately for me personally this doesn't fit my style. I hate working without the LCD BacPac and need access to the battery (especially when it locks up - you know what I mean).
The new GoPro HERO3 cameras are a world apart as far as performance features from the previous HERO2 cameras, but all of the new bells and whistles caused a few reliability issues. I (like many others) have often experienced issues of the HERO3 Black Edition freezing up to where I need to pull the battery out to reset the camera. This wasn't a big deal for me especially when on dry land, but while out in the ocean snorkeling, there's no easy way to pull your camera out of the housing without getting the camera soaked.
If you haven't caught the news, there's a GoPro HERO3 Software update that not only claims to improve 'reliability' of the camera, but also enhance the performance. If any of you get the chance to field test this new firmware let me know what the results are. I'm hoping to hear that this new firmware update will resolve those 'freezing up' issues. Head on out to the GoPro website for the firmware following the link (HERE).
During the NAB2013 show, GoPro sent out a bunch of single use coupons good for $100 OFF a brand new GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition (top of the line model). I'm sure there are thousands of lucky people who received this, but for those who didn't attend NAB, this could be your chance to get in on the deal.
[Update] Article Closed. Announcement will be in comments.
I have one of these coupons, and considering how I already have too many GoPro cameras, I'll just give this $100 OFF Coupon away to one random person who shares this article via Twitter (Click HERE to SHARE THIS TWEET).

Even though it looks like a toy, it's a pretty advanced little copter. Check out a few highlights about the new DJI Phantom GoPro QuadCopter:
Phantom has an integrated flight dynamics system, the Naza-M + GPS multi-rotor autopilot system, as well as the dedicated remote controller and receiver. The proven stability of the Naza-M autopilot system allows you to easily achieve great flight performance.
With the built-in Naza-M autopilot system plus a GPS module, the Phantom has GPS Attitude and Attitude Control Mode. Pilots can switch between the two modes to achieve a particular flight experience.
Phantom also has the Intelligent Orientation Control (IOC) function of the Naza-M autopilot system.
Phantom also has the failsafe function of the Naza-M autopilot system. This means when the communication between the Main Controller and the transmitter is disconnected, the outputs of all command sticks from controller will go to the center position. If the GPS signal is good enough, the system will automatically trigger Return To Home and landing safely.

The DJI Phantom Quadcopter was announced several weeks ago, but only on a Pre-Order status. They are now showing In Stock status ready to ship. You can find additional photos, videos, and specifications following the link via eBay (click here).
So while Sony has recently released it's new Action Camera set to steal some of the GoPro sports camera market, GoPro today announced the new Hero3 that is 35% smaller, 25% lighter, and 2x faster than previous GoPro Hero cameras. Even with a smaller profile, the Hero3 will offer built in Wifi (no need for BacPac). Low light performance is supposed to be 2x better than previous models also.
Want more? With the faster processor, the new Hero3 brings more framerate options like 1080@60fps, 720@120fps, and an impressive 2.7K resolution @30fps. They also brag about the ability to shoot 4K resolution video @15fps, which I still haven't figured out what I would personally use this for. Also includes ProTune, and offers manual white balance settings.
To be officially correct, the Hero 3 will be available in three different versions with three different prices. Only the 'Black Edition' camera will be able to offer the most features, while lower models will have some limitations. Vimeo member Stephen Diaz has already received the GoPro Dive Housing (Flat Lens) which allows the GoPro to focus properly underwater. Here's an early test video. The GoPro Dive housing is a must have to improve the quality of underwater footage, and fortunately it's the cheapest Flat Lens upgrade available for around $49 dollars. [Thanks Stephen].
While the world is waiting for GoPro to release it's Flat Lens Dive Housing, there have been other companies already selling some solutions. While those solutions aren't warrantied by GoPro and will cost you an extra dime, this clever little solution from Jomol will save you a few bucks as a workaround. For this you'll need the extended LCD back housing that gives you a bit of room to turn the GoPro Hero camera backwards inside the housing. Beats trying to make one yourself and risk water leakage. What I like about this idea is that you can probably cut a few colored gels to help you get some better white balance underwater. If you're not up to speed about the issues of Underwater video with the GoPro, check out this article here: http://cheesycam.com/gopro-underwater-blurfix-flat-lens-kit/
You'll get this special back piece when purchasing the GoPro Hero LCD BacPac Kit. Jomol claims images are sharp and has no obstruction in all field of views. Downside is you won't be able to use an LCD for framing a shot, but that's nothing new since the LCD was only a recent optional accessory. [Thanks Jomol]
