BlackMagic Design Adds More Features for Video Assist Recorder Monitor

BAM! BlackMagic Design has just dropped a new 1.1 update for their 5" Inch 10Bit HDMI/SDI Video Assist Recorder/Monitor. I'm super excited about this latest announcement as it finally adds many features to the BMVA that everyone has been dying to have (including me). Focus Peaking, Zebra, Central Zoom (focus aid), and now Timecode over HDMI (does record trigger work now from GH4 and A7s?).

    - oh, and triggering is fine if your GH4 is set to output 8bit, but not 10 (also doesn't seem to trigger if there's no card in the camera).

"I wonder if the grid 5.o viewfinder would work with the VA…?"

It does - I've got one on it now and it's great.

Now all BM has to do is add a loupe option to this and that would really make it stand out. Especially since Atomos never offered that for their recorders.

  5. Just updated my VA. It still won't work with my GH4 in Cinema mode(24Hz), but works great in NTSC all frame rates. All the new features work well, but the trigger still doesn't work. I'm using an old SanDisk SDHC Extreme card 45mb/s, that was dropping frames at every frame rate option on the GH4, but now it only drops frames at 60p(all bit rates). I'm waiting for an Extreme pro card, because my 90mb/s Transcend cards won't work. Center zoom is very helpful too.
